Segway Outdoor and Riester assist the CA Department of Conservation outreach efforts by employing "green" segways to promote recycling and conservation. Objective: As a result of connecting through the Great Outdoor Network, Segway Outdoor and Riester came together to develop and execute a campaign that would enable the California Department of Conservation to promote conservation and recycling in the Hispanic Market. Elements: Segway Outdoor deployed a 14 unit Segway team at area Cinco de Mayo festivals. With each unit equipped with a custom-mounted recycling bin and bilingual staff, the “Mobile Recycling Team” operated in four markets (San Diego, Culver City, Fresno, and Corona) on the same weekend helping to increase the recycling efforts at the festivals, sample promotional items made from recycled material, generate buzz around the bottlesandcans.com website, and create goodwill within the community. Results: The Mobile Recycling Team successfully made an estimated 20,000+ impressions across the four events. Perhaps most notable was the exuberant response from children and young adults. In interactions with this age range, all of the ambassadors in each market commented that children responded with a markedly enthusiastic attitude toward recycling due to the Mobile Recycling Team.
