Since its conception, the Festival de Cannes and the Marché du Film have always been a crucial meeting point for international film industry professionals. Directors, producers and buyers alike gather each year to celebrate both the artistic and commercial nature of the industry – and to ultimately, shape the future of film. Most of the action takes place at the famous Palais des Festivals, although screenings do take place all over the town. The beach is the place to see the starlets doing their thing, and the paparazzi following them with their cameras. In other words, Cannes is best known for starlets and stars living it up on yachts. The festival also has a proud history of upholding artistic standards within an industry increasingly dominated by the bottom line. A favourite was in 1998 at the screening of Armageddon, during which Bruce Willis' performance spontaneously convulsed an entire audience of professional moviegoers with laughter. Everyone has its own favourite Cannes moment. Jean-Paul Sartre loved strolling the Croisette in a bathing suit in 1948, while Brigitte Bardot did the same in 1953 to a rather different effect. The list goes on until today, since numerous Hollywood and European stars enjoy following the Cannes tradition.The success and development of the Festival de Cannes has turned it into a vast city that can be easy to get lost in. No less than 40,000 professionals are accredited each year at the Festival and Marché du Film – including 2,000 directors, 6,000 distributors and 5,000 producers. Every year, the Festival is a major crossroads for the Film Industry. A total of over 30,000 cinema professionals , including distributors , producers , directors , actors , technicians and the media , and over 200,000 people , meet in Cannes for over 900 screenings at the Palais and numerous other cinema events and a dazzling 117 countries attend this amazing festival. People from around the world attend the festival from celebrities, wealthy people, movie critics and many more. The music world also attends giving the festival a rhythm that shines into the atmosphere, rock stars, DJ’S, Music Mongols leave the audiences and people many nights to remember. In other words Cannes is a place where luxury has a new definition, it is the place where money and beauty combine to give the perfect combination one can ever desire. Cannes in that time is like a shinning diamond where one is blind by it’s beauty, that’s when the human’s six sense is born.
Cannes the venue Known to the world as the most amazing film festival that gathers people from all around the world, located in the Grasse region, Cannes owes its brilliant growth to tourism. The Hotel Gonnet de la Reine, the first luxury hotel on the Croisette, was built in 1858 and the Winter Casino in 1907. This is where the Palais des Festivals now stands. The 1st Cannes Film Festival took place in 1946. Cannes’ population of 71,000 literally triples in the summer season between July 15 and August 15 and as well during the Festival.
