E ver wonder who puts those ads on the bathroom stall doors? They can be entertaining and, of course, we are a captive audience. One of the leading providers of such alternative, or ambient advertising, is AllOver Media. Beau Jacobson owns and operates the Charlotte franchise of AllOver Media. For this entrepreneur, the business truly runs in the family. Beau’s uncle, Tony Jacobson, along with partner Jim Arabanos co- founded AJ Indoor Advertising in late 80s, when the concept of indoor restroom advertising had just started. After building, selling, and re-purchasing the business, AllOver Media was born. Beau, having interned and worked with his uncle for some time, decided it was time for his own franchise. “Growing up my thought was to be able to do something with the company. I had never been to Charlotte before but I knew it was time for me to own my own company,” Beau says at Twist, one of the venues in which his restroom ads can be found. Beau’s territory reaches from Mooresville to Gastonia to Rock Hill to Concord. “Charlotte keeps us very busy,” Beau reflects. “When I came down, we had less than 50 locations, now we have over 150.” The unique proposition of indoor print ads is its ability to get face time with consumers. “A client will spend from 1 to 3 minutes with the ad,” notes Beau. The print boards can be found either above urinals in the men’s restroom, on the back of ladies stall doors, or in a highly trafficked vanity area. The second unique aspect of this form of advertising is target-ability. Clients can target gender, age, location, and general interest. “If you’re target market is people hitting the night clubs we can hit that for you,” Beau says. “If you are more of a family advertiser or looking to advertise in a place like Carowinds theme park, we can target those for you as well.” Advertisers like auto dealers, hair and nail salons, and cosmetics and healthcare use AllOver Media to precisely target their demographic throughout the Charlotte area at venues such as Bar Charlotte, City Tavern, RJ Gators, Kabuto Japanese Steak House, Peak Fitness, and many more. AllOver Media also has space in the Knights stadium and Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. AllOver Media also offers other non-traditional advertising avenues like gas pump advertising as well as digital LCD screen advertising. They also have national reach for companies looking for a nationwide solution. “The eventual goal of the company is to be all over,” says Beau with a smile. “This type of advertising is not a fad. It’s been around for a while, and it will continue to grow. People that might be hesitant should take a look at the demographics they can reach. It’s definitely different, but its also effective and efficient.” And Beau’s personal satisfaction? — “I love what I do,” Beau says, “and to be able to build this up has really been a dream of mine.
