![]() (York, PA) – With world attention focused on “Live Earth, the Concerts for a Climate in Crisis,” which begin this evening and continue through the weekend, do it outdoors President and CEO Regis Maher has announced that the company will now use biodiesel fuel in its fleet of more than 100 Mobile Billboard trucks. “We’re thinking globally and acting locally” Maher says of his company’s move to the nontoxic, biodegradable replacement for petroleum diesel fuel. “It’s a small step but one that we hope will resonate in the local business community and beyond. We’re proud to be one of the first commercial users of biodiesel in the Mid-Atlantic region.” Biodiesel fuel is made from vegetable oil, recycled cooking oil and tallow. It is essentially free of the sulfur and carcinogenic benzene found in traditional diesel fuel. Most importantly, biodiesel is derived from renewable or recycled resources which do not add significantly to the greenhouse gas associated with petroleum-derived fuels. do it outdoors has a “solid track record of doing business in an eco-friendly manner” according to Maher. He noted that the company utilizes electric Segway I-2’s and battery-powered X-Treme XB-500 scooters in its primarily urban marketing and advertising campaigns. The company is currently researching the feasibility of adding electric or hybrid automobiles to its mobile fleet.
do it outdoors has also established the Green Team initiative that uses an energy-efficient promotional campaign to reach an advertiser’s target audience. A Green Team recently helped promote the “Stop Global Warming College Tour” in Washington, D.C. Last summer the company created a unique floating billboard to help publicize Dow Chemical Company’s “The Human Element” campaign. The Dow effort was designed to heighten awareness of pressing global environmental and social issues. do it outdoors has the largest mobile billboard fleet in the nation.
