Hatfield, PA (May 2007) – Billboard Connection, an advertising agency specializing in outdoor advertising, recently installed a Daktronics digital outdoor display on the side of a building in the center of Allentown, Penn. The 12-feet by 24-feet display will play a role in revitalizing Allentown’s inner city. “We’re excited to control a medium that the entire city looks at. Everyone knows that it’s a Billboard Connection display. We went with Daktronics as our supplier because of their experience with other outdoor advertising companies and the flawless operation of their product,” says Doug Reed, senior account executive for Billboard Connection. The mayor of Allentown, Pennsylvania’s third largest city, enthusiastically supports the installation. He believes that the display reinforces his Main Street Initiative dedicated to business development and inner city improvement. The mayor plans an unveiling event to demonstrate how the new digital display can benefit public and private sectors simultaneously. AMBER Alerts, crime stoppers information and community events messages will run on the board, along with ads sold to the tenants of the building where the display is mounted. Future plans include working with local news stations to run election results every hour and setting up audio to show family-friendly movies in the summer and at Christmas time. Upon seeing the first message on the outdoor display, “Welcome to downtown Allentown,” the mayor enthusiastically supported the installation and committed to help change Allentown’s ordinances to allow off-premise signage. Meanwhile, an on-premise permit made this installation possible. Daktronics support services provided AMBER Alert setup and training for the Allentown display, and Billboard Connection also contracted scheduling and monitoring. Digital technology is the newest development in the outdoor advertising world. A digital board offers significant advantages to both the outdoor advertising company and the clients using the display. Billboard Connection has the advantage of increased available advertising space to daypart, allowing multiple advertisers to share time simultaneously on a single display. The unprecedented content flexibility gives clients the advantage of targeting specific demographic groups at certain times. For example, a restaurant can use a single display to advertise the breakfast options early in the morning and the supper menu when people are commuting home.
